The challenge

GAP-01 · Dark

A support window that didn’t match their sales map

Metalumen’s team worked 8 to 4, Eastern. Their reps didn’t.

An agent opening their laptop at 3pm in Vancouver was reaching a team that had already gone home. A rep in Halifax hit their stride an hour before anyone in head office sat down.

Neither of them was doing anything unusual, they were just asking a routine question at a normal hour in their own market. In practice, a routine question could cost a full day.

The gap was a structural mismatch between where Metalumen sold and when Metalumen could answer.

GAP-02 · Dark

A quote was a manual, time intensive puzzle

Building a single product code meant opening a spec sheet, cross-referencing it against several spreadsheets, and reconstructing the configuration by hand. That process worked, but it had two costs.

The first was throughput: how many quotes Metalumen could turn around in a week was capped by how fast a person could piece things together.

The second was risk. Every manual hop between documents was a place where the wrong option code, the wrong adder, or the wrong price tier could slip into a document going out under Metalumen’s name, to a customer who would reasonably treat it as final.

GAP-03 · Dark

No line of sight after the quote went out

Once a quote left the building, staying on top of it was manual. Following up meant remembering to follow up.

Metalumen team members were manually piecing together reports by hand at the end of every day, with limited visibility into deeper product insights.

Outcomes

SPAN-01 · Lit24/7

A self-serve portal solution that made them the easiest to work with

Reps configure products and get answers themselves at 6pm Pacific, 9am Atlantic, on a Saturday when a deadline moved.

Metalumen’s coverage stopped being a function of their office hours. Their schedule stopped being the constraint.

Engineering defines the rules once and everyone else gets the benefit

Metalumen’s engineers encoded their product logic into Electrify a single time: what configures with what, what’s valid, what it costs. After that, building a correct product code and quote came down to a few clicks.

The cross-referencing that used to happen across spreadsheets now happens in the rules, which means the output is validated by the logic rather than by whoever happened to be building the quote that afternoon.

When Metalumen’s VP of Sales changes an adder price, it updates across every price tier at once. One change, propagated, instead of the same edit hand-carried into multiple sheets and hoped to be consistent.

Follow-up and reporting run themselves

Electrify automated quote follow-ups, project tracking, and sends the Metalumen team a report at the end of each day to brief them on daily activity.

The practical difference is that the pipeline picture is current by default. Nobody has to build it, so nobody has to remember to build it, and it isn’t out of date by the time it’s read.
